“Banking on A Greener Future” was an initiative funded in part by a successful Community Impact grant in partnership with Seeding Victoria (SV). It was delivered in 2024-2025 and focused on expanding community knowledge and skills related to seed conservation and local plant ecology in Buninyong and surrounds.
Through this project, SV and YLCG aimed to empower the community with practical skills in seed collection, storage, germination, and understanding the ecological importance of native plants.
The project also included two volunteer days at Seeding Victoria’s Creswick facility where volunteers gained firsthand experience in seed handling, maintenance and cleaning.
A central component of the initiative involved hands-on workshops in both indoor and field settings, designed to be accessible to participants of all ages. The project established a “Seed Pod” group, a dedicated team of community members trained to responsibly collect seeds from local plant species, fostering sustainable practices in seed management and plant conservation.
We are passionate about collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver small and largescale environmental restoration programs that restore the Yarrowee, Leigh and Woady Yaloak Rivers and their surroundings.
