The Friends of the Yarrowee River is a community group that aims to work actively to enjoy, restore and protect the Yarrowee River and its environs, between Brown Hill and Magpie.
FoYR holds restoration events, such as tree planting and Clean Up Australia Day, as well as events to enjoy and promote the river, including as guided walks and bike rides.
The contribution of the FoY has been ongoing since the 1980s. Over 2025 and 2026 we have been involved in the Urban Ripple tree planting projects, managing two planting sites in Brown Hill and Redan.
A warm welcome is extended to everyone interested in being a Friend of the Yarrowee River (Yaramlok as it was known by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners). As thousands of people enjoy the environs of the Yarrowee as it meanders through the Ballarat region, we invite you to join us in promoting river and environmental health by caring for the Yarrowee and its surrounding ecosystems.
You are encouraged to join us by forwarding your expression of interest with your contact details to our email address. Join our mailing list and Facebook page to stay informed of events. Membership is free.
