Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Yarrowee Leigh Catchment Group do?

We are the catchment network for all local Landcare and Friends Of groups.  We seek to create connected and resilient communities dedicated to healing the environment and increasing biodiversity.

Simply check out our events page and come along to a working bee or event.  You could also apply to join our board or offer to bake scones or make soup for tree planting events.

Everyone!  No matter your age, skills, or background, everyone is welcome to be part of Landcare and we can find ways for you to participate.  If you need support to participate or unsure of accessibility to any of our events, please talk to us about how we can help you.

No problem at all!  You don’t need any special skills to get involved.  We’ll provide everything you need and show you how to plant trees.  You’ll pick up lots of extra knowledge from our friendly volunteers and groups too.

We can support private landowners in the Ballarat region to identify indigenous and invasive species on their properties and develop land management plans.  We can also provide you with our fantastic indigenous fauna, flora, insects and (coming soon!) weed brochures to help you identify what you already have on your property and ways you can support great biodiversity.

The Urban Ripple project is a $701,000 initiative funded by the Victorian Government through the Green Links Grant Program. The project is led by the Bunanyung Landscape Alliance in partnership with the Leigh Catchment Group and aims to restore 80.5 hectares along 9.8 kilometres of waterway. Our goal is to plant 39,500 native trees, shrubs and ground covers, carry out large-scale weed control, and foster environmental awareness through education and community engagement.  You can sign up for any of the events and plantings listed on our website to be part of the project or contact the Project Officer at projectofficer@leighcatchmentgroup.org

We have funding from a range of sources, including the Victorian Government’s Facilitator Funding Program and Green Links Grant Program.  We also partner with the City of Ballarat to deliver projects and have received generous funding from the Community Bank Buninyong to help us purchase necessary tools and resources.  We are always looking for new partners and funders so please get in touch if you’d like to support our work.

Absolutely!  We love working with young people at kinders and schools to get them excited about landcare and environmental stewardship.  We also love working with other community groups around Ballarat so get in touch if you’d like to partner with us.

You can talk to our wonderful Facilitator or Project Officers about specific opportunities. You can also contact our Board Secretary at secretary@leighcatchmentgroup.org
